Privacy andyour data.

How dōva handles your information. Plain language, no surprises.

What dōva collects

dōva uses Google Analytics to understand how people use this calculator: which pages are visited, how long people spend, and what features are used. Google Analytics sets cookies on your device to do this. These cookies collect your IP address (which Google anonymises), device type, browser, and browsing behaviour on this site.

We do not collect your name, email address, or any account information. This site has no accounts and no login.

If you use our feedback form (hosted on Discord), you may optionally provide an email address. We use this only to follow up on your feedback if needed. We do not add it to any mailing list or share it with anyone.

Cookies

This site uses the following cookies:

_ga, _ga_*
Set by Google Analytics. Used to distinguish visitors and track page views. These cookies are only set if you accept analytics cookies via the consent banner.
Duration: Up to 2 years
pizza_consent
Set by dōva. Records whether you have accepted or declined analytics cookies. This cookie is necessary for the site to remember your preference and does not track you.

No advertising cookies are used. No data is sold to anyone. No remarketing or ad targeting is enabled.

Third-party services

Google Analytics processes analytics data on our behalf. Google's privacy policy applies to their handling of this data. We have disabled advertising features and data sharing with Google.

Ko-fi is linked from this site for voluntary support. Ko-fi processes payments under their own privacy policy. We do not receive any personal data from Ko-fi beyond what is visible on a public Ko-fi page.

Discord hosts our feedback form. Discord's privacy policy governs data submitted through their platform.

Vercel hosts this site. Vercel may collect server logs (IP addresses, request timestamps) as part of normal web hosting. See Vercel's privacy policy for details.

Photo Submissions (Show Your Bake)

When you submit a photo through dōva's Show Your Bake gallery, here is what happens and how your information is handled.

What we collect

When you submit a bake photo, we receive:

  • The photo you upload
  • A name or social handle (optional; if you do not provide one, your submission appears as "Anonymous Baker")
  • A caption (optional, up to 200 characters)
  • Your country (optional)
  • Your IP address (used only for rate limiting to prevent spam; we do not store it beyond the current session)

We do not collect your email address, precise location, device information, or any other personal data through the submission form.

How submissions are processed

Your photo and accompanying text are sent to a private Discord channel operated by Squircle Labs for review. This means your submission is transmitted through and temporarily stored by Discord. Discord's handling of this data is governed by Discord's Terms of Service and Discord's Privacy Policy.

Squircle Labs reviews every submission by hand. We do not use automated moderation. We aim to publish every submission that meets our community standards. Photos may be rejected if they do not meet the guidelines outlined below.

What appears on the site

If your bake is selected for the gallery, we publish only:

  • Your photo (optimised for web display)
  • The name or handle you provided
  • The caption you provided
  • The country you selected (if provided)

No other information is displayed or stored alongside your gallery entry.

Ownership and rights

Your photos remain your property. By submitting a photo, you grant Squircle Labs a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to display, reproduce, modify, and distribute the photo on the dōva website and in related promotional materials, including but not limited to social media posts, press materials, presentations, and any materials used in connection with a potential sale or transfer of the site. This licence survives any transfer of site ownership. You may request removal of your photo at any time by contacting us, and we will remove it promptly. Upon removal, the licence for that photo is revoked.

Modification may include cropping, compressing, optimising for web display, and blurring faces (particularly the faces of children, as described below). We will not alter photos in a way that misrepresents the content of your submission.

You must only submit photos that you own or have permission to share. Do not submit photos taken by others without their consent.

Submitter representations

By submitting a photo, you represent and warrant that:

  • You are the original photographer or have obtained all necessary permissions to share the photo
  • The photo does not infringe on the intellectual property rights, privacy rights, or any other rights of any third party
  • The photo does not contain illegal content
  • You have the legal authority to grant the licence described above

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Squircle Labs, its owner, and its contributors from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your submission, including but not limited to claims that your submitted photo infringes on the rights of a third party or violates any applicable law.

Children and minors

We take the safety of children seriously. If a submitted photo contains the identifiable face of a child (anyone who appears to be under 18), Squircle Labs will blur the child's face before publishing the photo to the gallery. If blurring is not practical or the photo primarily features a child, the photo will not be published.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. The submission form does not request age information. If we become aware that a submission was made by a child under 16, we will remove it.

Photos we will not publish

Squircle Labs reserves the right to reject any submission for any reason. We will not publish photos that:

  • Contain identifiable faces of children (without blurring, see above)
  • Contain inappropriate, offensive, or harmful content
  • Contain personal information visible in the image (documents, screens, addresses)
  • Are not related to pizza, bread, or baking
  • Appear to be spam or promotional content
  • Were not taken by the person submitting them

Removal requests

If your photo appears in the gallery and you would like it removed, contact us through the Feedback link on the site or through our Discord server. We will remove it within 7 days of your request.

Data retention

Submissions that are not selected for the gallery remain in our private Discord channel for review purposes. We periodically clear unselected submissions. Photos selected for the gallery remain on the site until removed by Squircle Labs or at the request of the original photographer.

Limitation of liability

This site and the Show Your Bake gallery are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. Squircle Labs is not responsible for user-submitted content, including photos, names, and captions submitted through Show Your Bake. Squircle Labs does not guarantee that submitted photos will be published, that the gallery will be available at all times, or that the site will be free of errors.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Squircle Labs shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from or related to your use of the site or submission of content.

Governing law and international users

Squircle Labs operates from British Columbia, Canada. The operation of this website and the interpretation of this privacy policy are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

We recognise that our users come from around the world. We are committed to treating every submission with respect and to handling personal information in a manner consistent with applicable privacy laws, including:

  • The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) for Canadian users
  • The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for users in the European Economic Area. Canada has been recognised by the European Commission as providing an adequate level of data protection under PIPEDA.
  • The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) for California residents
  • The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) for users under 16 in the United States

Where a conflict exists between British Columbia law and the privacy laws of your jurisdiction, we will apply whichever standard provides stronger protection for your personal information.

If you have a concern about how your data or submission has been handled, we encourage you to contact us first through the Feedback link on the site or through our Discord server. We will make every reasonable effort to resolve the matter promptly and fairly. If we are unable to resolve your concern, you retain the right to seek recourse through the applicable regulatory authority or courts in your jurisdiction.

Our commitment

Squircle Labs is a small, independent studio. We do not have a legal department. What we do have is a genuine commitment to doing right by the people who use this site. We will always handle your submissions, your data, and your trust with care. If we make a mistake, we will correct it. If you ask us to remove something, we will remove it. This policy exists to make our practices clear, not to shield us from accountability.

Ownership

dōva, including its original content, design, code, user interface, and visual presentation, is the intellectual property of Squircle Labs and its developers. All rights are reserved under the Copyright Act of Canada (R.S.C., 1985, c. C-42) and applicable international copyright treaties, including the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works and the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS). Copyright protection afforded to original works published on this site extends to all member countries of these agreements.

Ask Nonna

"Ask Nonna" is an original creation of Squircle Labs. The name, the persona, the response style, and the associated visual presentation are proprietary to Squircle Labs. The Ask Nonna name and concept may not be reproduced, imitated, or adapted without explicit written permission. Squircle Labs reserves all rights to pursue trademark registration of the "Ask Nonna" name and associated branding at its discretion.

What Squircle Labs claims ownership of

The following original works are the exclusive intellectual property of Squircle Labs:

  • The Ask Nonna name, persona, troubleshooting cards, and AI assistant design
  • The pizza style stories, pizza bites, and educational content written for this site
  • The methodology documentation as written and presented on this site
  • The glossary of terms as compiled and written for this site
  • The original compilation of the flour database, including the selection, arrangement, editorial descriptions, hydration recommendations, and style pairings (see note below on factual data)
  • All visual design elements, including layout, typography, colour schemes, card designs, and iconography
  • The dōva site's source code as written

What Squircle Labs does not claim ownership of

This site uses publicly available scientific principles, established baking formulas, and published ingredient data. Squircle Labs makes no proprietary claim over:

  • Baker's math, which is a standard method used across the baking industry
  • The Q10 temperature coefficient, which is an established principle in food science and enzymology
  • Individual flour specifications (protein content, W values, absorption rates) published by flour manufacturers
  • Pizza style definitions and their general histories, which are part of the shared cultural record
  • Brand names and product names referenced in the flour database, which are the property of their respective owners and are used for informational purposes only

Anyone is free to build their own calculator using the same underlying science. What they may not do is copy dōva's specific implementation, presentation, educational content, or compiled data.

Permitted use

You are welcome to:

  • Use the calculator to generate recipes for personal or commercial use
  • Share links to the site
  • Reference dōva and its content in articles, blog posts, or social media, provided that Squircle Labs is credited as the source and a link to the site is included
  • Print or save recipes generated by the calculator for your own use

Commercial use note: Recipes generated by the calculator may be used in commercial settings (restaurants, bakeries, food businesses). Squircle Labs is not responsible for the results of any recipe generated by the calculator. All calculations are provided for informational purposes. Users are responsible for testing and validating recipes in their own environments.

Prohibited use

You may not:

  • Reproduce, scrape, or republish the site's original content, in whole or in part, on any other website, application, or publication without written permission
  • Use dōva's original content, design, or editorial materials to build a competing product or service

Limitation of liability

The dōva calculator, Ask Nonna, and all content on this site are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. Squircle Labs is not responsible for the outcome of any recipe, baking result, or decision made based on information provided by this site. Users assume all responsibility for the use of recipes and information obtained from the site, including in commercial settings.

User-submitted content

User-submitted photos in the Show Your Bake gallery remain the property of the original photographer, as described in our Photo Submissions policy. Squircle Labs operates under a non-exclusive licence to display submitted photos as outlined in that policy.

Enforcement

Squircle Labs takes the protection of its intellectual property seriously. Unauthorised reproduction or use of original content from this site may result in action under the Copyright Act of Canada, including notices of claimed infringement under Canada's Notice and Notice regime (sections 41.25 and 41.26 of the Copyright Act), requests for removal to hosting providers and search engines, and pursuit of available remedies under applicable law.

Your choices

You can decline analytics cookies using the consent banner when you first visit dōva. If you decline, Google Analytics does not load and no tracking cookies are set.

If you previously accepted and want to change your mind, clear your browser cookies for this site and the consent banner will appear again on your next visit.

If you are in the EU, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data under the GDPR. If you are in Canada, you have similar rights under PIPEDA.
